Bodie Kuljian Boosted Alopecia Awareness Through his Success on The Voice

Bodie

Bodie Kuljian made waves in Season 22 of The Voice as Blake Shelton’s favorite competitor, but this was by no means the start of his impressive career. If you are one of Bodie’s fans, you will also know that he brought valuable awareness about the autoimmune disease alopecia, which he has.

While his singing abilities made him one of the frontrunners on The Voice, Bodie’s insights about alopecia have been much more impactful for others suffering from the disease.

What Is Alopecia?

Alopecia (Alopecia Areata) occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s hair follicles, causing hair to fall out on the scalp, face, and sometimes across the entire body. This leads to visible bald spots, and while somebody with alopecia might only experience a single bout in their lifetime, it can be a consistent part of life for others.

If you suffer from alopecia or know someone who does, you will understand hair’s important role in your mental health. Because hair is a crucial part of someone’s appearance, losing it can negatively impact self-esteem and confidence.

Although there is no definitive cure yet, the good news is that there are treatment methods for hair loss that have great results.

Bodie’s Background and Experience with Alopecia

The talented 29-year-old musician, church pastor, media director, videographer, and father of three already built an impressive career before making his way onto the stage of The Voice. Born into a musical family, Bodie learned to play various musical instruments and was writing and producing his own music by 11.

Once Bodie was 15, he was diagnosed with alopecia, which caused a large amount of his hair to fall out in his teens. The psychological impact caused him to struggle in school as he wrestled with depression and anxiety relating to the condition.

Creating Awareness about the Impacts of Alopecia

Through his music, Bodie managed to find a way through the emotional hardships of alopecia, with the disease giving him his trademark white hair while he appeared on The Voice. His openness about struggling with alopecia, noticeable appearance, and passion for music placed alopecia on the center stage. He created an environment where the nation and world can learn more about this disease and how it affects people’s daily lives.

Bodie also serves as a great role model for anyone with alopecia, showing that it’s possible to live life with passion and purpose without hiding away. He continues to work with his church, write and produce music, perform across the country, and be a great father and husband.

You don’t have to let alopecia seriously affect how you live your life. Sometimes it just takes seeing someone else overcome their challenges to find the inspiration to follow in their footsteps.
